Cartoon of the Week: Reddit engaging more users than other popular platforms
Reddit may not be the first social platform that comes to mind when thinking about your next marketing campaign and branding (well, that’s because Redditors basically hate marketers). But lately the numbers are showing that this little Snoo is on the rise.
Statistics demonstrate that the average number of monthly active users has jumped from 250 million to 330 million in less than six months. That’s a rise of more than 30 per cent, making the platform the sixth most visited website in the world, according to the latest global website ranking from Alexa.
Alexa also shows that Reddit has better engagement (called ‘addition’ in some cases) than many other more popular platforms.
The average user spends 15 minutes on Reddit each day, compared to 11 on Facebook and six on Twitter. I’ll let you guess how many minutes if not hours a Redditor spends on Reddit.
Reddit is not only outperforming social media platforms. It’s killing it from another perspective too. The ‘adult’ one.
It seems that visitors spend longer on Reddit.com than on the top 50 most visited sites on the web, even including the top ‘adult’ websites.
That said, Reddit users value free speech, unlike other social networks that have cracked down on violence and hate speech.
Reddit actually allows people to create whatever subreddit they like and create their own communities, as long as language and behaviour don’t violate Reddit’s policies.
The powerful thing about that is that moderation is done by humans, not by automated systems. Moderators reserve the right to remove content, or restrict users’ posting privileges as necessary, if it’s deemed detrimental to the subreddit or to the experience of others.
Being the most human-oriented social platform, we can better understand why Reddit is outperforming its peers.
