Information overload: what solutions to regain control over the excess of information?

Start with a diet: consume less but better!

As with food, it’s not a good idea to stop consuming information altogether in the long term. Easily start by cutting down on quantity and focusing on quality.

Clean up

Unsubscribe from unnecessary newsletters, limit the communities you follow and delete applications that bring no added value. You can also set up a tool to help you limit the time spent on media or social networks.

Learn to say no and prioritize

Let go and give up the idea of reading every piece of information you receive or answering instantly to every request. Rely on the Eisenhower matrix to assess the urgency and importance of each task, and then plan, delegate, delete or execute.

Here are a few examples:

  • You can dedicate a specific time block to checking and replying to your e-mails. For example, 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon.
  • You can also schedule all your meetings within a half-day, or group customer calls together.

The result with the batching method? Less distraction, more focus and greater efficiency.

Respect the right to disconnect

The aim of the right to disconnect? To enable employees to find the right work-life balance and reduce the stress linked to hyperconnection.

Here are a few easy steps you can follow to respect this right to disconnect:

  • Turn off your notifications during your disconnection times (evenings, weekends or vacations) and use the “do not disturb” mode.
  • Leave your phone on your desk during meetings.
  • Take a real lunch break and get out of the office
  • Disconnect your business applications outside working hours and during vacations to avoid temptation.
