1/ Building an e-Learning System on top of eXo Platform 4
The Case:
- The community member is wondering if he could use eXo Platform as the basis for a full featured e-Learning management system, not only for teaching and learning, but also to hosting and enable research and to manage payments.
The Takeaways:
- eXo Platform is based on GateIn, which is a solid portal framework for building apps and deploying them on a secure platform that will manage security, users, UI layout and IS integration (SSO, ldap,…).
- Adding eXo Platform and its content management and collaboration capabilities to GateIn allows the user to model, manage and present business objects with much less coding involved than if it were necessary to start from scratch.
- All in all, with little coding, users can build e-Learning Systems on top of eXo Platform 4
2/ Japanese Language: Character Support and Search Feature
The Case:
- In this forum question, the user is an early adopter of the Japanese language in eXo Platform and faces problems with the search features as well as with characters that are not displayed correctly.
The Takeaways:
- eXo Platform is trying to support a wide range of browser versions, but, as always, some brand new features work better on newer browsers. While eXo Platform works with Internet Explorer 8, all the character display errors disappear with IE 10.
- The Japanese language support for the unified search has been a critical point raised in this thread and eXo teams are actively working on making it functional so Japanese users can also enjoy this great feature that will enable them to find their documents and other contents wherever they are in the platform.
- Currently under investigation, an alternative way to make the unified search work would be to replace Lucene (Search Index and Analyser) with a new version.
