Codenvy Acquisition: Red Hat can’t resist Che
Codenvy, an eXo Platform spin-off which provides cloud workspaces for developers, was acquired by Red Hat today.
This strategic choice aims to enrich Red Hat’s cloud-native application development portfolio, offer multi-tenancy and provide more security and automation.
The decision also cements a collaboration that has been building for a while. If we go back in time a bit, we can see that the last Red Hat Summit and DevNation, which took place on 27 June in San Francisco, brought Red Hat and Codenvy closer as they collaborated on a language server protocol project with Microsoft.
It’s no wonder that after finding a common way to integrate programming languages across code editors and integrated development environments (IDEs), Red Hat fell for Che. Who wouldn’t?
By launching the IDE revolution, Eclipse Che is making it easier for everyone to collaborate and contribute to a project.
With the Codenvy acquisition, there are now tremendous opportunities for developers to gain access to intelligence.
Graig Muzilla, Red Hat’s senior vice president, said, ‘We are thrilled to add Codenvy’s cloud-native development tools and containerized workspaces to Red Hat’s already expansive portfolio of solutions for building modern, cloud-native apps, to help make developers more successful.’
We look forward to seeing other companies join forces and evolve!
