Cartoon of the Week: Richard Branson to embark on new challenges with Hyperloop one
Hyperloop one, just got a major vote from one of the world’s most recognizable billionaire, Richard Branson.
Hyperloop one is a startup developing a futuristic high-speed transportation system first popularized by the other most recognizable billionaire, Elon Musk, in 2013. But Musk offered it as open-source idea back then as he was immersed in Tesla and SpaceX.
Virgin Group founder Richard Branson is now betting big on Musk’s idea and is touting Hyperloop one’s perks such as speed. He is also joining Hyperloop One’s board of directors and as part of deal, the company is rebranding as “Virgin Hyperloop One”.
“After visiting Hyperloop One’s test site in Nevada and meeting its leadership team this past summer, I am convinced this groundbreaking technology will change transportation as we know it and dramatically cut journey times,” Richard said in a statement.
During a recent test, the company’s full-scale test pod nearly hit 200 miles per hour and could even reach 250 miles per hour. The company is still pushing hyperloop limits with other tests though as the system is projected to zip people between San Francisco and Los Angeles in 30 minutes.
But Branson wasn’t only busy with getting people faster from one place to another, he’s also planning on visiting space in the meantime because that’s how highly productive people operate.
When asked whether he expects to go into space first or ride a hyperloop he said “I would be very disappointed if I haven’t been into space within six months or so.” He also added “I think it’s more likely that I will go into space before I get into my pod,”
