Cartoon of the Week: The emoticon turns 35 :-)
The emoticon is celebrating its 35th anniversary this week!
On September 19, 1982, Carnegie Mellon computer scientist Scott Fahlman used a 🙂 to indicate a joke in a message board post, and it has been famous ever since.
The emoticon gave birth to emoji, which changed the way we communicate. Now emoticons are seen as old school, but they inspired the emojis we use today.
Let’s honor the symbols that make our communication more emotional and our texts more alive.
Happy birthday, smiley face 🙂
